It’s hard for any rescue animal to find a home, but it’s even more of a challenge if there’s a perceived “defect.”
That was the case for poor Romeo. The kitten, who was discovered living on the streets of southeastern Spain, was born with a rather unique face. All of his brothers and sisters had already found their forever homes, but Romeo was left all alone because people thought he was ugly. Thankfully, that changed the moment Laura Llacér, founder of Compasión Animal Santuario, first saw him.
When Laura Llacér of Spain’s Compasión Animal Santuario rescue center first saw Romeo, she couldn’t believe that people thought he was ugly. Different, sure, but he was still super charming and he deserved a home!
So she decided that she would rescue Romeo from his lonely life on the street and bring him to her sanctuary to live alongside cows, ducks, and other animals.
Now he’s never far from Laura’s side. In fact, the two are the best of friends.
Despite his unusual appearance, Romeo is a very affectionate cat. Laura believes that his unique face is actually what makes him special, and it’s hard to disagree!
It blows our mind that no one realized how special this little guy is. Until Laura, of course. Thank goodness for her!
