Ava, a pregnant Chow mix, was slated for euthanasia at a shelter to make more space for incoming dogs; and to make matters worse, she was pregnant.
Fortunately, a good-hearted woman named Ashlee Holland met Ava and knew she was her only hope of surviving, so she decided to adopt her. Holland was also a mother, so she felt a connection with Ava.
Holland took Ava to the vet for a health examination and X-ray but didn’t reveal exactly how many puppies she would have. Less than two weeks later, Ava went into labor overnight.
She had her first puppy a few hours later. She had four more puppies in the next hour, took a break, and then had another two an hour later. Her contractions had stopped, so her human changed her clothes and cleaned her while taking care of her seven puppies.

Holland saved not only Ava’s life, but the lives of 18 little pups as well!
All of the puppies were healthy and grew very quickly. Ava was a great mom to all her 18 puppies.
All puppies have already been adopted.
