Magician John Stessel certainly has what it takes to fill people with wonder through his magic, but he recently had the chance to perform for a different kind of audience — a happy group of adoptable shelter dogs.

And their reactions couldn’t have been more perfect.

Working in partnership with director Rob Bliss and TBS, Stessel paid a visit to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in New York. There, he put on private shows for pups eager to find people to love them — thus giving them the chance to showcase their adorable personalities to potential adopters.

“I’ve always loved the idea of doing magic with dogs,” Stessel said. “Performing for them was nothing short of incredible.”

Here’s a video of Stessel and his furry audience in action:

“The reaction from the dogs was just amazing,” Stessel said. “They were just so cute. It was really special.”

After the show, each dog was showered with plenty of treats and affection. And with any luck, thanks to this added attention, they will soon perform disappearing acts of their own — from the shelter’s kennels into the hearts of new families.

“They just wanted to be loved,” Stessel said. “Each one of them would be perfect to find their own forever home.”
