Koko The Gorilla Fosters Trio Of Kittens While Raising Awareness For Shelter Animals

Koko the gorilla, who is well-known for her incredible sign language skills, has never had any kids of her own, but has always had a deep love for kittens.

She has a strong maternal instinct which has been proven in the past when she took care of two cats for almost ten years before they passed away. Koko was devastated at the loss, but was gifted a box of kittens for her 44th birthday.

Now, Koko is fostering three two-month-old kittens named Bear, Mia and Vaida. She is only allowed to interact with them under supervision, but their interaction benefits both Koko and the kittens.

It’s very stimulating for Koko, and of course the kittens need fostering. It also helps socialize the cats and make them less afraid.

“When you have this giant gorilla holding onto you, you’re not afraid anymore of most things,” Julie St. Gregory of San Jose Animal Care Center, said.

Watch Koko’s amazing interaction with the kittens in the video below. She’s clearly very big, but she knows how to be extremely gentle with them. It’s absolutely mind-blowing how intelligent Koko is, and it’s amazing to see how great of a mother she makes. They may not be her children by blood, but she certainly treats them as if they are her own!

Aren’t animals just wonderful? Make someone’s day by sharing this post with them.
