Six Tiny Puppies Rescued From Woods Make A Miraculous Recovery

You never know what you’ll find on a walk. For one man, what he found was a box tucked away under the trees. His curiosity got the better of him, and he took a look inside. What he found were six tiny puppies who had been cruelly left to die. They were doing terribly, and he didn’t know how long they had been there, so he rushed them to the local vet.

They weighed in at under five pounds each and were covered in scabies and open wounds due to scratching themselves, possibly because of fleas. Most of their fur was gone completely, and they were malnourished and freezing cold. Who knows how long they had survived in a box in the wilderness with no food, water or warmth.

However, our anonymous do-gooder took them to an animal shelter in Sylacauga, Alabama. The tiny puppies’ condition shocked staff members, but they soon put them on a rehabilitation program. Soon, staff hoped the pups would be well enough to be adopted.

Carers at Auburn Veterinary College also helped to get the pups back to full health, as well as the Second City Canine Rescue (SCCR) in Chicago, Illinois. “[The puppies] were so smelly that the shelter staff had to wear masks in order to bathe them,” said Nicole Zaguroli of SCCR. “They were in very bad condition; they had scabies, they were malnourished and cold.”

The angels who then adopted the six puppies had to give them extra care after their horrific upbringing. as it was still affecting their health. However, their patience and care were rewarded. At the start, nobody knew what breed the tiny puppies were. But, as they grew, it became clear that guesses of poodle and cocker spaniel were very wrong.

A DNA test revealed the dogs to be the Great Pyrenees, a giant dog used to guard livestock. Breeders charge thousands of dollars for these puppies, which can grow to 120 pounds. The goodwill of the adopters really paid off. I guess karma does come around!
