Aren’t they the cutest!?

These cute baby otters that squeal in delight when they get a new kind of snack they’ve never tried before will definitely put a huge smile on your face.

The snuggling animals have been rescued by a man named Frank Cuesta and are now kept at an animal preserve center. Cuesta, who has helped rescue more than 6,000 animals from the hands of traffickers during the last 15 years, says how having these otters around is a real joy.

If it wasn’t for this man and his team, the otters would probably be sold on the black market where people pay enormous amounts of money for animals from the wild.

A southern pudu, the world’s smallest deer species, was just born at the Queens Zoo. He’s the fourth pudu to be born at the zoo in the last five years.

The species is listed as vulnerable on the endangered species list by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, so this birth is a big step forward in efforts to keep the pudu around. Zookeepers in Queens and the Bronx breed pudu as part of the Species Survival Plan, which is a breeding program meant to conserve population of endangered and vulnerable animals.

Pudu deer, which are native to Chile and Argentina, are extremely tiny. As adults, they reach just 12 to 14 inches tall and weigh as much as 20 pounds. Aside from being the smallest deer species, they also have very interesting traits.

They bark when they’re scared, and they run in a zig-zag pattern from predators. Since they’re so small, they excel in jumping, sprinting and climbing. They’re also born with white spots which fade away as they grow up. Male pudu do grow antlers, but since their bodies are so small, the antlers are only a few inches long. When it comes to eating, they feed from sources close to the ground. They love to eat fruit and they also feed on leaves and twigs from plants and branches on the bottom of trees.

See this adorable, tiny and unique deer in the video below:

Koko the gorilla, who is well-known for her incredible sign language skills, has never had any kids of her own, but has always had a deep love for kittens.

She has a strong maternal instinct which has been proven in the past when she took care of two cats for almost ten years before they passed away. Koko was devastated at the loss, but was gifted a box of kittens for her 44th birthday.

Now, Koko is fostering three two-month-old kittens named Bear, Mia and Vaida. She is only allowed to interact with them under supervision, but their interaction benefits both Koko and the kittens.

It’s very stimulating for Koko, and of course the kittens need fostering. It also helps socialize the cats and make them less afraid.

“When you have this giant gorilla holding onto you, you’re not afraid anymore of most things,” Julie St. Gregory of San Jose Animal Care Center, said.

Watch Koko’s amazing interaction with the kittens in the video below. She’s clearly very big, but she knows how to be extremely gentle with them. It’s absolutely mind-blowing how intelligent Koko is, and it’s amazing to see how great of a mother she makes. They may not be her children by blood, but she certainly treats them as if they are her own!

It’s spring and eggs are hatching! What do you do when you come across what appears to be an orphaned baby bird? Your instincts might tell you to pick it up, maybe even care for it until it’s big enough to fly away, or take it to a professional. However, that baby might not be abandoned at all!

It is important to first identify whether the bird is a nestling or a fledgling. A nestling will be pink, featherless or fuzzy, and will likely not yet have opened its eyes, while a fledgling will have adult feathers and may be attempting flight. This important distinction will help you decide how to proceed.

If the bird is a nestling, it has most likely fallen out of its nest. If you can find the nest, you should attempt to return the bird to its home (don’t worry, the idea that mama bird will abandon it because of the smell on your hands is a myth). If the nest has been destroyed, you can make one. Try using a plastic container with small drainage holes cut through the bottom. Line it with soft nesting materials (paper towels or a wash cloth), and nail the container as far up into a tree close to where you found the nestling as you can. The mother will probably locate her young and continue supporting it while it grows to a fledgling.

If you cannot locate the tree from which it probably fell, you should carefully pick up the bird, place it in a small box with nesting material, and contact your local wildlife organization.

<script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3863380614073753"

If the bird is a fledgling, it is most likely on the right path! With a full set of feathers and stronger breastbones, fledglings are becoming more independent as they learn to fly & forage. Their mothers are typically nearby (within a few blocks), and will return to continue to teach their fledgling to take care of themselves. In this case, if it’s in a relatively safe place (out of the way of cars and cats), you should leave the bird as close to where you found it as possible so she can find her baby. If you step way back and watch from afar, you’ll probably see mama return with a beak full of food!

If after prolonged observation you don’t see mama return, or if there appears to be a significant injury, give your local wildlife hotline a call for advice on what to do next – before handling the bird.

The dad in this video does an excellent job of handling his encounter with the situation! He and his daughter do their best to help the baby birds without interfering with the mother’s work. While the babies in the video appear to be close to fledglings, it looks like they’re not quite ready to leave the nest.

It’s important to remember that it is illegal to keep wildlife. As cute as these babies are, let their mothers care for them. However, if you really want to help, there are other adorable babies who would appreciate your contribution!

Please take the time to share this story with your friends and loved ones.

White lions are rare with less than 300 remaining in the world. Mufasa is a beautiful male, white lion located in South Africa. He was rescued as a cub and brought to a wildlife rehabilitation center. However, three years later he now faces being sold to the highest bidder.

Mufasa was confiscated by law enforcement as a cub and brought to the wildlife rehabilitation center to be cared for. Shortly after he arrived, the center took in a female cub, named Suraya, to be his companion. The two have grown up together for the past three years. They are inseparable.

Recently, a sanctuary offered to take both Mufasa and Suraya and would keep them together for the rest of their natural lives, free of charge. This sounds like the perfect solution, except National Conservation officials refused the relocation.

Instead they plan on auctioning off the rare lion to the highest bidding trophy hunter. Care2 states, “Instead, the rehab centre was told telephonically that Mufasa will be auctioned to raise funds for the department.” A petition was started to persuade The Minister of Environmental Affairs to send both lions to the sanctuary, not auctioned to trophy hunters.

The petition has over 167,000 signatures with over 4,000 coming from South Africa. Their goal of 170,000 signatures is nearly met. A video was created showing the majestic lion, Mufasa. It encourages people to sign the petition and help save Mufasa from being slaughtered by a trophy hunter. He deserves to live his life with his best friend.

The penguins, who were still being affected by an oil spill that occurred in 2001, had been unintentionally swallowing dangerous chemicals as they attempted to clean the oil off their feathers. When he heard about the Penguin Foundation of Phillip Island’s call for knitters to create “jumpers” for the flightless birds, the 109-year-old Alfie put his eighty-plus years of experience to work.

Phillip Island is home to about 32,000 little penguins. They are the smallest penguins in the world, and the only species with blue (rather than black) and white feathers as an adult.

Their feathers are waterproof when clean, but when oiled they can separate and leave the penguin open to exposure. The sweaters, besides preventing the penguins from swallowing toxic oil, keep the little penguins warm, dry, and snugly, and ultimately keep them alive.

Kevin Richardson, also known as “The Lion Whisperer” or “Lionhearted,” can’t get enough snuggle time with his wild lion friends.

He’s called “The Lion Whisperer” because he is perhaps the only human on earth that has found a way to integrate himself into a number of big cat communities. His personal bond with these lions is unmatched, and allows him more intimate access to these amazing felines than anyone previously thought possible.

Drew Doggett is a photographer who does a lot of travelling. He has been around the globe, taking pictures of various cultures and landscapes as he moves from one area to another.

Although he has a lot to offer, one of the most popular of his series captures the beauty of Icelandic horses. It is entitled, In the Realm of Legends, and it takes a look at some of the often forgotten wildlife that lives in the frozen landscape.

While in Iceland, he lived on a farm that had hundreds of those horses. He was instantly attracted to the beauty that the landscape provided. One of the tales that was told was of an eight-legged Icelandic horse named Sleipnir. It is thought that the horse was the spirit animal of Odin, a mythological god.

The pictures that he took show the relationship between the semi-wild horses that roam the area and the real world descendants of Sleipnir in a very harsh yet beautiful environment.

The landscape features some of the most beautiful areas in any part of the world. Black sand beaches, cascading waterfalls, and icy lagoons form the perfect backdrop for the horses as they go about their day-to-day business. Interestingly, Doggett decided to use colour for this series, even though he typically shoots in black and white.
