This particular pup has come back from his service overseas to enjoy the quiet life. That is, until his humans decide to make room for one more. This will be something to keep him entertained at least, we suppose.

Adorable, right? Yeah, we thought so.

While hesitant at first, it looks like this old soldier and his new kitten companion will become fast friends. They’re not sure what to think of one another just yet, but that won’t stop them from having years of beautiful companionship.

Watch their first impressions in the video below! We can’t get enough of this cute duo!

Spike, a member of the K-9 patrol with the Virginia Capitol Police, spent many years with U.S. Marine Jared Heine, until Heine was sent home to Louisiana after a series of brain injuries. After many years of protecting each other in Afghanistan, Heine and Spike were split up, and Heine began struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. With Heine constantly talking about how much he missed Spike, his mother Mary decided to try to track Spike down in order to help her son. She started searching online and eventually got news that Spike was in Virginia.

The problem was, Spike was now working with Officer Laura Taylor, and the two had been inseparable for the past two years. As much as she was in love with Spike, Officer Taylor realized that the best thing for Spike and for Heine would be to let Spike go, as painful as it would be.

We may fear many things in our life but a house fire is probably near the top of the list. Unfortunately, it happened to the Butler family when they were sleeping in their home in Bradenton, Florida. On Tuesday, September 17 at 2 AM, a fire broke out and quickly spread through the home. The alarm did sound, but it didn’t sound for long.

Fox 13 reported on what Leroy Butler, the homeowner had to say:

“It only lasted a short ‘beep beep’ and then it was already on fire. It was gone.”

In a very short amount of time, the blaze swept through the house, consuming everything in its sight. Since the alarm didn’t sound very long, the family continued to sleep.

That is where Zippy the superhero dog comes in. He realized that danger was occurring so he ran through the house, barking as loud as he could to let the family know that the fire was burning.

Butler said:

“He was back and forth. He was from bed to bed, back and forth.”

Zippy was a Jack Russell terrier and he ran back into the home through the fire to get the family out safe.

According to the Bradington fire department, the fire started near the air-conditioning unit in the attic but they still don’t know what caused the blaze.

The entire family was able to get out. ‘They wouldn’t move. All they could do was scream and holler, ‘No! No! No!’ Butler said.

Their family home is now a loss. Leroy and his children buried Zippy this morning @FOX13News #Bradenton pic.twitter.com/AS7sAdb12i

Zippy was the only member of the family that was missing. Leroy tried to go back in to save him but the fire kept him from doing so.

Butler explained:

“The floor in the living room was all on fire so there was nowhere for him to run out. Even if the smoke was this high. He was a short little dog. There was nowhere for him to go.”

All Butler could do was wait for the firefighters to put out the fire. By the time they got Zippy out, it was too late. He had died of smoke inhalation.

Not only is the family now without their home, but they also lost all of the contents and their beloved dog.

Butler added:

“We adopted him as a pet, so we can only, I can only say he was a good dog. He only did what he could.

He would let me know if someone was outside. With the smoke, he still did his job. That’s just one thing and one person that I couldn’t save and one person I couldn’t get to.”

A man that stabbed a police canine in the head is the first person to be jailed under the new ‘Finn’s law’ that was created to protect working police animals.

Daniel O’Sullivan, 29, admitted to that he stabbed the police dog, Audi, while his handler attempted to make an arrest in Stoke-on-Trent, England. He also pleaded guilty to five counts of assault and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

In total, O’Sullivan was sentenced to 21 months in jail, with three months to be served for injuring a police dog.

Audi was attacked after he and his handler responded to reports of a man on drugs and wielding a knife on 1 July. 2019. When they arrived, O’Sullivan was seen holding a glass bottle in one hand and a knife in the other. He threatened to stab the officer and the dog if they got any closer. When O’Sullivan refused to comply with further instructions to put down the knife, Audi ran in to take down the suspect.

Audi was stabbed twice in the head and had to receive emergency medical treatment.

Detective Inspector Stephen Ward, from CID, said: “O’Sullivan presented a significant danger to anyone who was nearby and we cannot allow the public to be put at risk.

“He assaulted five officers, spitting at four of them, which is a degrading experience for the officers concerned and can present a health risk.

“O’Sullivan was out to seriously hurt PD Audi and it was lucky that he wasn’t blinded or killed as a result of his injuries. Aside from the sheer cruelty of his actions, it takes a great deal of time, energy and expense to train a police dog and an experience like that could have ended his career. Fortunately, Audi has recovered well and is back at work.”

The prosecution for the attack against Police Dog Audi is the first under the new Animal Welfare (Emergency Services) Act. Known as Finn’s Law, it now recognizes police dogs as public servants and not just police property with a maximum sentence of six months. The government has plans to increase the maximum sentences for those who are guilty of animal cruelty to five years in prison.

The law is named after a police dog called Finn, who was stabbed while in pursuit of a suspect with his handler Dave. Perhaps you may remember them from appearing on Britain’s Got Talent?

Despite being stabbed in the chest and head, Finn did not let go of the suspect until reinforcements arrived, and he almost didn’t survive the attack.

PC Wardell said: “The last two-and-a-half years have been quite a journey of discovery for Finn and me.

“We decided that we just had to bring change to make sure our amazing service animals, including police dogs and horses, had protection in law.

“This law is about giving our service animals the protection they deserve as they dedicate their lives to keeping us safe.”

Since 2012, over 100 other service animals have been injured according to those who have campaigned for Finn’s Law. Those injuries include being kicked, hit by a car and being beaten with an iron bar.

The statue was created to recognize the ‘loyalty and service’ of the West Mercia Police canines. It stands outside of its headquarters in Hindlip.

Sculptors at the British Ironworks Centre, Oswestry created the sculpture free of charge and donated it to the police department. The police said it was ‘an incredible reminder of the hard work, dedication, and bravery of the dogs’.

Included in the sculpture are blades and weapons left over after Knife Angel was created. That 26-foot high statue is a tribute to knife crime victims. Also included in the statue are canine ID tags, dog bowls, and whistles.

One of the Ironworks latest creations to be unveiled is the ‘Police Dog’, made in honour of the service given and bravery shown by K-9’s across the UK. Hundreds of police dogs risk their lives, and are involved in violent and extreme circumstances every year, whilst assisting and protecting officers carrying out their roles. Made up of hundreds of decommissioned firearms, and knives taken from the streets of the UK, West Mercia Police felt the need to recognise the self sacrificing loyalty and bravery shown by these animals and truly honour them with a piece of art which would act as a permanent reminder to all. We are very excited to be able to show you, after months of planning and creating – what we have been working on with West Mercia Police and Sculptor, Luke Kite.
In April, the unveiling of a national police dog Memorial took place in Essex. The statue in Worchester, however, is unique according to the British Ironwork Centre.

“It will be the first one that’s ever been created using weapons and blades,” said Clive Knowles, chairman at the center.

Many police dogs and their human handlers, including Bacca, a retired police dog, and his former handler, Mike Davey were at the unveiling.

A top bravery award was given to Bacca in July after he defended Mr. Davey from an armed assailant carrying a knife. Bacca suffered stab wounds during the altercation.

U.S. military veteran Chad Stricker had not seen his 10-month-old wolfdog Nymeria in days. When he found his dog’s collar in his mailbox, the note that was next to it made his blood run cold.

“I’m sorry to inform you that your dog was shot and killed Saturday night while digging through my garbage,” the note said. “It did not suffer and I did not take pleasure in killing it. There is a county leash law which you should abide by so that I do not have to kill any more of your pets.”

Nymera’s collar was large and yellow, with a picture of her, and a description of her personality.

“There’s not a mean bone in her body,” Stricker said. “She was good with other dogs, good with kids. She was super lovable.”

Also on the collar were her home address and Stricker’s phone number. The note in the mailbox was not signed, and its author made no other attempt to contact Stricker about the shooting.

The dog’s collar was left in Stricker’s mailbox, along with a note.

“I was sick to my stomach,” he told the Sun Herald. “To think that someone killed her while we had been out looking for her, for digging in the garbage. An animal is not worth more than your trash or the time to make a phone call?”

Pearl River County residents whose pets escape their yards or wander off leash to the point of becoming so-called “nuisance animals” have little recourse if those animals are shot. The law gives property owners the right to shoot at those animals, whether or not they are pets. It has been invoked many times in the county’s history, but that doesn’t mean all the killings were justified.

Sometimes we forget about our smallest veterans that need assistance too, after leaving active service. And those veterans I’m talking about, are retired military working dogs. They need people to adopt them after their service is up.

The Air Force is asking for people – military members or civilians – who would be willing to adopt some of their retired military working dogs.

I mean, it’s hard to say no to a face like that.

Air Force officials at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland have released a news issue last month calling for adoptive parties to take their retired dogs. The Air Force has stated that while there is lots of demand to adopt the puppies that didn’t make the cut for active duty, there is significantly less interest in adopting the adult dogs – which are exceptionally trained by the way, and could easily rescue you from various dangerous situations or sniff out any nearby bombs.

If you are indeed interested, the Air Force has warned that the process for adopting a retired military dog can be long and could potentially take up to two years.

Interested potential dog owners are required to fill out paperwork and answer questions as to where the dog will live, and how it will be cared for.

And not anyone would be eligible to adopt the canine vets. In order to be deemed a good fit, applicants need to have a six-foot fence, no kids under the age of 5, and no more than 3 dogs already in the home. They also need to list their veterinarian on the application, provide to references, as well as be able to produce a transport crate. Please ‘SHARE’ this with your friends and family to spread a smile!

Sheldon was paired with the German Shepherd in Kandahar, Afghanistan, where they worked side by side for 18 months forming an unbreakable bond. And that is very evident here as he makes good on his promise from years ago.

With his nearest neighbor located a quarter-mile away, his yelling went unheard by all except for Kelsey. The brave dog used her keen sense of smell to track down her owner, and she snuggled his hands and feet to try and keep him warm. She barked and barked until the neighbor was finally alerted over 20 hours later. At this point, Bob was unconscious and critical.

Bob was taken in for emergency surgery, and doctors said he was alive only as a result of Kelsey’s bravery. Kelsey kept her dad company at the hospital as he began his recovery, but it’ll be a long process and rehabilitation. But what can’t he conquer with his heroic dog by his side?
